Hello MMDC Learners,
At MMDC, we’re committed to giving you the support you need to thrive as digital students, even while working. Each term, we look at your performance, listen to your feedback, and identify opportunities to make your learning experience smoother, clearer, and more responsive.
Over the past terms, many of you shared what helps you learn best:
- faster and clearer feedback,
- more time and guidance from your Professors,
- consistent standards across sections, and
- support that keeps up with your busy schedules.
We hear you — and we’re excited to introduce an improvement designed to make your BSIT experience even stronger.
Starting this coming term (T2-SY2526), the BSIT program will begin using the Professor + IT Coach (ITC) Model, an enhanced learning support structure that brings faster feedback, more guidance, and a more consistent academic experience.
What is an IT Coach?
An IT Coach (ITC) is an industry practitioner who has been trained in MMDC’s standards, rubrics, and coaching approach.
Their role is to:
- check and assess your outputs,
- give clear, actionable, rubric-based feedback,
- support your progress throughout the term, and
- help ensure your learning stays on track.
They work closely with your Professor and Program Head to maintain aligned academic expectations.
How does the new model work?
Your Professor continues to lead your learning for the course. This includes:
- facilitating all synchronous sessions,
- guiding your overall mastery of course outcomes,
- providing academic mentorship,
- addressing complex questions, and
- supervising and calibrating the IT Coaches.
Your IT Coach works alongside your Professor and supports the same learners/cohort throughout the term. They provide timely assessments, clear feedback, and continuity of support.
Together, your Professor + ITC form your learning team — giving you more people, more guidance, and more consistent support.
This model allows each role to focus on what they do best: Professors on teaching, IT Coaches on providing timely, reliable, rubric-based feedback.
What Better Experiences Can You Expect?
-
More Focused Support From Professor: Because Professors are supported by ITCs, they can dedicate more time to the parts of learning that matter most to you:
- Deeper guidance
- More meaningful mentoring
- Clearer explanations during sync sessions
- Plenary support for complex project questions
-
Faster, Clearer Feedback: ITCs help review your outputs using calibrated rubrics, so you can expect:
- Quicker, more consistent turnaround times
- Feedback you can immediately apply
- More predictable progress checks
- Stronger, More Consistent Support: Instead of relying on just one person, you gain a team supporting your learning. This ensures your experience remains strong even as the BSIT program grows.
- A Better Experience for Working Students: This model is designed with your schedules and responsibilities in mind. The goal is simple: less waiting, clearer guidance, more steady support, and more time focused on learning.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Will I still have my Professor?
Yes. Absolutely. Your Professor remains your main mentor, guide, and academic lead.
What exactly does an IT Coach do?
IT Coaches check outputs, provide rubric-based feedback, and help ensure your learning progress is supported. They are trained to apply consistent standards across sections.
Does this mean my class size is getting bigger?
Expect your synch sessions to have more people, which may help with several activities relying on sharing experiences, partnerships, or other interactive events. Professors will oversee more learners - but you are actually gaining more focused and personalized support now that IT Coaches are part of your learning team.
Who gives my grades?
ITCs assess your outputs based on MMDC’s rubrics. They’re trained to give consistent, transparent feedback. Professors oversee the academic standards and ensure alignment across the course.
Will the way I submit outputs or attend classes change?
No changes on your end. Your workflow stays the same. You’ll just start experiencing clearer feedback, quicker turnaround times, and more accessible guidance
How qualified are the IT Coaches?
ITCs are industry practitioners who have been carefully selected based on their ability to understand and support MMDC’s learning model. They bring current industry experience to ensure they help prepare you for the real-world.
Why is MMDC implementing this now?
Your feedback helps shape how we improve the BSIT program. Many of you shared that timely guidance, consistent standards, and clearer feedback make a big difference — so this model is our way of strengthening the support you receive.
