In certain cases, students may request the opening of a Special Class to help ensure timely academic progression. A special class refers to a course that is not offered during the current term, either because it is not a regular offering, seasonal, phased out, or has been abolished due to low enrollment (i.e., the number of students falls below the minimum required).
Special Classes may be requested when the following academic circumstances apply:
- The student will be further delayed due to phased out courses or seasonally offered courses, especially for the BSBA program.
- The student is in their penultimate term or is a candidate for graduation
A request may only proceed if:
- A formal petition is submitted by the student,
- An eligible faculty member is available to handle the course, and
- MMDC’s online platforms and resources can support the course delivery.
Note: Integrative courses are not eligible for offering as special or petition classes.

This information should help the student decide on whether they will proceed their enrollment to the petition course, or not.

Assessment of Fees for Petition/ Special Courses:
If approved, fees will be assessed based on the number of students enrolled in the class. The formula for computation is as follows:
-
For Special Classes with 1-7 students:
- Special Class FEE PER STUDENT = [Tuition and Laboratory Fee per unit* x No. of units of the course x 8**] ÷ No. of students
Sample Computation:
-
For Special Classes with 8-14 students:
- Special Class FEE PER STUDENT = [Tuition and Laboratory Fee per unit* x no. of units of the course x 15**] / no. of students
Sample Computation:
* The per-unit cost is subject to the approved rate per school year and may be adjusted accordingly in succeeding academic years. Subsequent enrollments will follow the prevailing per-unit rate as approved for that school year. This is also dependent on the payment scheme preferred by the student.
** 8 and 15 are standard formula multiplier depending on the number of students enrolled to the petition course.
